  MH/DD Redesign

Pursuant to Iowa Code §225C.5 the MH/DD Commission is created as the state policy making body for the provision of services to persons with mental illness, mental retardation or other developmental disabilities or brain injury. Legislation passed during the 2002 session provide for a 16 member commission appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate. These appointments were made by November 2002. In addition to the functions previously performed, the legislation also designated the Commission to address issues relating to the redesign of the mental health and developmental disabilities system.  On August 6, 2002, in an effort to facilitate system redesign, the Commission voted to break into workgroups to look at key components of the system.
