ACTION NEEDED! All-Terrain Vehicles

Numerous bills relating to off-road vehicles and ATVs are floating around without too much action. HSB 617, however, was discussed in the House Transportation subcommittee this week. The bill amends the definition of all-terrain vehicle to include off-road utility vehicles.  The subcommittee is proposing to strike the bill language entirely and replace it with language that would allow ATVs to be registered as a motorcycle. The amendment specifies that ATVs would be allowed to travel on all county roads and would not be subject to a 35 mph speed limit. This may open up numerous liability and safety issues to counties. The bill, as amended, is to be considered in the House Transportation committee next Tuesday. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS AND SHARE YOUR CONCERNS ABOUT THIS BILL.
