People Versus Propane
Companion bills
HF 2166 and
SF 2235 would require
propane dealers to deliver propane to customers who can prove that they have
$500 cash or who are eligible for LIHEAP.
These bills came about due to significant
anecdotal evidence that there is a problem getting propane to poor
customers.
The legislation also allows the dealer to apply
25% of a cash payment to a past bill.
The industry has thrown up barriers to getting
these bills passed.
At the House subcommittee meeting on it last
week, a propane lobbyist asserted that there is “no constitutional right to
heat.”
Please contact your legislators and urge them to
support these bills.
